What We Do
HCC provides free legal services to eligible low- and moderate-income tenants, tenant associations, HDFC shareholders and other community organizations located in the Hell’s Kitchen/Clinton and Upper West Side neighborhoods (34th to 100th Street, west of 5th Avenue to the Hudson River) who meet our meet our income eligibility requirements. HCC provides legal services in the following matters:
- Housing
- Domestic Violence
- Public Benefits Issues
- Immigration Issues
- Consumer Law
- Elder law
- End of life directives
If you do not reside in our catchment area or meet income eligibility criteria, please come instead to our Legal Consultation Clinic.
INTAKE
To retain free legal services from HCC, those interested are required to complete an intake form (English)/(español) and speak with an HCC staff attorney during our walk-in intake hours.
When attending an intake session, please make sure to bring all relevant information such as court papers, leases, notices received and proof of rental payments. In addition, if you need repairs, please bring a list of those as well. You do not need to have been served court papers in order to come into intake with a housing problem.
Eligible documents
To insure income eligibility, you must also provide us proof of income for all household members (such as tax returns, public assistance, pay stubs, Social Security award letters, etc.).
CONFIDENTIALITY
Finally, you can be assured that anything you tell the attorneys and tenant organizers at HCC is fully confidential. We cannot disclose information unless you give us permission. We at HCC look forward to helping you in the near future. Please understand that gathering the necessary information before you come in will save you and HCC staff time so that we can provide you with the best legal information and assistance possible.
